As an artist, I refuse to be obstructive in the language I use to explain what I make. I want to be direct with my audience, especially about topics that might be new to them.
As a kid who grew up in an academic household,
- where visiting La Biennale di Venezia was on the vacation planning every other summer - I know contemporary art is often based in research, activism and the artist’s intimate inner world. Every piece can be it’s own hyper-specific monument to the world around us, that takes time to be understood. It’s a big reason why I love art.
But I have also really come to appreciate that I can show people something small and playfull, and they will still listen.
I thrive much better working in artforms where I can directly speak to my viewer and explain what I want to achieve. Whether that be in my comics, my drag, my video work, my online presence or my installations. I am an internet kid who started liking popculture later in life and decided that these are the platters I want to serve my thoughts on.
